Overview

St. Luke's Health System in Twin Falls, ID is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to join our Clinical Engineering team.

 

Under minimal supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET), performs technical work inspecting, calibrating, repairing, and maintaining advanced (respiratory, anesthesia, sterilizer, perfusion, laboratory, robotics and laser) medical equipment, devices, systems, and instruments including requirements in previous levels.

  • Repairs, installs, maintains, calibrates, and inspects a diverse range of therapeutic and diagnostic biomedical instrumentation and equipment.

  • Performs and documents preventive maintenance and repair of medical electronic equipment and systems, as assigned, in accordance with established organization procedures.

  • Demonstrates advanced working knowledge and use of required test equipment and tools to service electronics, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical circuits. Diagnoses and corrects system and equipment malfunctions. Maintains documentation of all service events, performance tests, and corrective maintenance.

  • Interprets and effectively utilizes service manuals, schematics, and other applicable service information, required to perform and document planned maintenance and repairs of medical equipment and systems.

  • Coordinates with vendors on scheduled planned maintenance for scheduling and completion including closing of work orders and attaching service reports.

  • Provides technical assistance and instruction to personnel regarding equipment operations and maintenance.

  • Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs and/or maintenance as needed. Reviews outcome of preventive maintenance and repair actions and makes recommendations to HTM department leaders concerning
    improvements.

  • Works and coordinates with other Healthcare Technology Management (HTM)/Clinical Engineering team members on projects, installs, rounding in departments.

  • Provides in-service educational programs on use, repair & planned maintenance of equipment. Participates in on-site and off-site training programs as assigned.

  • Complies with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State, and local codes, regulations, and requirements.

  • Performs tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity. Handles moderately complex issues using knowledge of procedures and policies. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex
    problems and issues.

  • Complies with Joint Commission, DNV, NFPA, CMS, Etc. and other applicable standards and regulations by participating in accreditation surveys, EOC rounding, staying up to date on accreditation standards with
    working knowledge of standards interpretation, updating HTM records with applicable standards, education & training of BMET 1 and 2 staff on standards.

  • Assists, manages, and monitors third-party repairs.

  • Serves as a trainer or subject matter expert. Acts as first point of escalation. May participate in interview, training, and onboarding process. Participate in performance improvement initiatives as needed.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree or Department of Defense (DOD) Certification, or experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience: 4 years relevant experience
  • Licenses/Certifications: None
