Overview

Serving as the connector between industry sponsors, investigators, and St. Luke's Health System, The Business Development Director will accelerate St. Luke’s research portfolio growth by sourcing high quality clinical studies, cultivating sponsor and contract research organization relationships, and streamlining feasibility and intake activities across operating units. This role is an integral partner with research managers, principal investigators (PIs), and cross functional teams in aligning opportunities with strategy, capacity, and financial targets.

What You Can Expect:

  • Identify and pursue study opportunities with sponsors, contract research organizations, biopharma, device, and diagnostics companies aligned to St. Luke’s priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a targeted outreach plan and calendar; promote St. Luke’s capabilities, therapeutic interests, and investigator expertise.
  • Represent St. Luke’s at industry meetings, conferences, and virtual forums; schedule capability presentations and site qualification discussions.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for inbound sponsor outreach, feasibility requests, and general inquiries; ensure timely triage and response.
  • Coordinate feasibility questionnaires, CDAs, and pre‑award diligence with minimal burden on managers and coordinators.
  • Standardize sponsor touchpoints and materials (capability deck, site profiles, metrics one‑pager) to improve speed and consistency.
  • Facilitate study evaluation: coordinate strategic fit, investigator interest, operational readiness, enrollment potential, and financial viability (in coordination with Finance).
  • Partner with centralized intake and feasibility workflows to ensure consistent routing of opportunities and transparent decision-making.
  • Identify bottlenecks (contracting, start‑up resourcing, equipment, staffing) and coordinate with stakeholders to resolve.
  • Collaborate with Legal/Compliance, IHT (Epic Research Add‑On and research apps), Finance, Data/Analytics, and Philanthropy to align business development activities with downstream execution.
  • Participate in Intake Committee, CoE/CoP forums, and monthly operations reviews to stay current on capacity and priorities
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across operating units to improve throughput and quality.
  • Maintain a clear business development pipeline (lead feasibility site selection award) with stage definitions, KPIS, and progress reports. Maintain clear documentation, dashboards, and updates to keep leaders, managers, and private investigators informed.
  • Provide market intelligence on sponsor pipelines, trial trends, and competitive positioning to inform research strategy. Contribute business development insights to strategic planning (service‑line growth, new therapeutic areas, geographic expansion).

Qualifications:
