Overview

St. Luke’s Health System is seeking a Workforce Safety Coordinator to join our team

 

Unit/Position Summary

This position uses a specialized body of knowledge to support project initiatives and promote evidence-based safety practices as part of a comprehensive workforce safety program.  Uses strong organizational, communication (verbal and written) and problem resolution skills to present information and respond to inquiries from management and employees of all levels.  Develops education and communication strategies that help drive consistent adherence to OSHA safe work practices and reduced DART injuries. Conducts various worksite evaluations to assess risk of exposures and proactively identify any unsafe conditions that may lead to injuries. Utilizes High Reliability Skills in everyday work, contributing to a strong organizational safety culture.

 

Full time: 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week)

  • opportunity for hybrid schedule with 3 days in office. 

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular safety rounding at assigned population health sites. Prioritizes sites with concerns to monitor/audit safety operations, conduct routine meetings with unit leaders to address employee safety issues, promote the use of higher reliability skills and share best practices.
  • Participates in assigned Population Health Area (PHA) safety huddles; offers insights on accident trends and investigations.
  • Provides oversight of safety event investigations and corrective action plans related to reported workforce injuries to ensure timely completion and implementation of interventions based on National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH) Hierarchy of Controls. Monitors for emerging trends and partners with local operational leaders to resolve hazards as appropriate.
  • Assists with OSHA Reportable investigations and collects supporting documentation / pictures to respond to OSHA inspections / Rapid Response Investigations. Reviews Workforce Safety-related policies and coordinates updates with stakeholders.
  • Monitors Employee Safety Power BI Dashboard; Works with other Workforce Safety Coordinators to develop and adjust system-level action plans based on leading and lagging indicators.
  • Research best practices and regulatory standards. Serves as the subject matter expert on a variety of health & safety topics as well as OSHA regulations and updates. Ensures workforce safety programs comply with OSHA regulations and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Performs health & safety tasks such as accident investigations, fit testing, and the like. Assists in writing reports describing results.
  • Conducts noise sampling, documents findings, and provides recommendations to address staff and leaders’ concerns in a manner that ensures OSHA hearing conservation compliance. Communicates annual audiogram requirements with affected staff and their leadership to support compliance with St. Luke’s hearing conservation program. Reviews and updates the Medical Surveillance Dashboard for accuracy.
  • Conducts onsite workstation ergonomic evaluations. Recommends resources to support employee workstation ergonomic safety in the workplace. Maintains confidentiality of any protected health information (PHI) and ensures proper documentation of evaluations. Confirms appropriate follow up on recommended interventions and escalates unresolved issues as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or four years’ experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience: 2 years of experience.
