The Clinical Documentation Specialist is responsible for performing reviews of the electronic health record for comprehensive and complete physician documentation for all relevant diagnoses, procedures and ancillary treatments to ensure proper reimbursement and accurate reporting of physician and facility outcomes.

This position is a registered nurse who must oversee the review processes of complex patients of different ages and development in acute and chronic disease states. Must be devoted to ongoing, continuous learning in clinical medicine. This position requires a strong and superior clinical knowledge background, independence, and strong facilitation and analytical skills to communicate both verbally and in writing with physicians, clinical staff, and clinical leadership.

Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to maintain awareness of the business of medicine and transitional healthcare changes, including but not limited to CMS updates, coding guidelines/policies, value-based purchasing, bundled payments, and accountable care organizations and have a practical understanding of ICD-10 CM/PCS.

Required Criteria
Current license to practice as RN in Idaho.

Preferred Criteria
Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Three or more years’ experience as an inpatient nurse with additional experience in utilization management and discharge planning preferred
