Summer Clinical Pastoral Education Student

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Students will provide the following services as they gain competence and proficiency in the practice of pastoral care. The CPE Student is responsible for assessing and attending to the spiritual needs of patients, their families, and employees, particularly in times of spiritual distress brought on by life-threatening or life-altering medical diagnoses and procedures. The CPE Student serves patients and family in time of transition such as death and dying, provides decedent care, and may help the patient and family by supporting and assisting in resolution of bioethical concerns. Spiritual counseling and support may be offered through group work, religious services, hospital celebrations, and other methods.

 

Required Criteria

  • Active participation and membership in good standing in a recognized faith community

 

Preferred Criteria

  • Master of Divinity degree or currently enrolled in equivalent program
  • Ordination or commissioning by recognized religious and spiritual organizations
  • Former CPE unit completion
