What You Can Expect:
The Skilled Trades Technician 3, under minimal supervision, is responsible for maintaining and repairing facilities, buildings, and equipment for the organization. Ensures compliance with company policies as well as applicable state and federal regulations. Individual incumbents may specialize in one or more of the function areas of the Skilled Trades listed below: Electrician: The Electrician assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures. • Uses hand tools and testing instruments to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components and isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment. • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems. • Dismantles electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical or mechanical parts such as gears, brushes, and armatures. • Mounts motors, transformers and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications. • Inspects completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes. HVAC (Heat, Ventilating, Air Conditioning): The HVAC Mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. • Monitors HVAC systems and operations and ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established schedules. • Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components of the system. Plumber: The Maintenance Plumber inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. • Assembles pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. • Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observes pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. • Caulks leaks and opens clogged drains. Installs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters and related plumbing fixtures. • Reviews blueprints and building codes and specification to determine work details and procedures.
